I was born in 1986, so although was only alive for 4 years of the 80’s, I can fully appreciate the music that was released in this decade. Here’s a list of my 10 favourites.
I love each and every one of them and never get bored of listening to each track.
This song reminds me of Gavin and Stacey and is one of the main reasons I love this song so much.
Great 80’s pop song. Whenever I hear it, I imagine a really cool group of people walking into a nightclub with this playing in the background. Smoke everywhere and women wearing some very large shoulder pads.
Love a bit of Bowie. This song is just the epitome of cool for me. Even my son is dancing along to this while I type. I really fancy David in the video too. Weird crush perhaps?
Used to love it when I was ‘Up Chase’ (local nightclub) back in the day and this would come on. Cue some really questionable dance moves by myself. Usually all by myself.
Such a happy song and my favourite Bowie track.
Love the words. They’re so true and Sting plays the guitar beautifully. Whenever I hear this song I have tears in my eyes, I would love to have the ability to write a beautiful song like this. In fact, I’d love to have the ability to write a song full stop, I have nothing but admiration and respect for song writers. They have brought so much to people’s lives.
If I had the chance to watch any one, dead or alive, perform it would be Freddie Mercury. What a performer. What a voice.
I just adore The Jam and this is by far my favourite track by them. I can’t help but smile and dance whenever I hear it. I have great memories of this song.
2. Enola Gay – Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark
Proper 80’s track. Great uplifting synths. I don’t listen to it because of the anti war message, I just love the song itself.
Prince’s best song by a country mile. Great words, sexy music and I could listen to it over and over again. If anyone has an experience of unrequited love then this would resonate a treat.
It makes me want to perform an Argentine Tango a-la Strictly Come Dancing, such a shame I would fall over my own feet if I tried though.
Now over to Wes for his Top 80’s tracks, he’s an 84 baby so was around in the 80’s a little longer than I.
Let me know what 80’s tracks you love.
