It only feels like yesterday we were watching one of the most stand out series’ of Celebrity Big Brother in the show’s 15 year history. What a few weeks that was and certainly kicked 2016 off with a bang. It was drama galore and provided us Reality TV lovers with plenty to talk about, not to mention us writers plenty to write about. With this in mind, the latest series of CBB has a lot to live up to. Its predecessor did not disappoint and I’m hopeful that with this collection of housemates, we’ll be treated to yet more drama, fall outs, showmances and of course, plenty of material for me to write about!
For you, my lovely readers, I have provided a breakdown of the line-up, complete with my opinions and who I think will be first to go and crowned the winner of CBB. I don’t like to blow my own trumpet (much) but I got it right last time so let’s see if I can do so this time around. I’m confident in my choice!
Celebrity Big Brother would not be the same without a Geordie Shore cast member. Enter Marnie Simpson who’s been a GS’er for the last 3 years. Now, despite my Reality TV addiction, I haven’t watched an episode of Geordie Shore for quite some time. I fell out of love with it a year or 2 ago and haven’t had the inclination to give it a go since. I’m sure Marnie is hoping for a Geordie hat-track, considering Scotty T won the last series and her friend and former castmate Charlotte Crosby won a few years ago. I’m not confident she’ll win, for me she doesn’t have the humour that her castmates possess. Marnie may bring an element of drama to the house, she’ll probably be involved in a few fall outs, however, I don’t think she’ll be a standout housemate this year. There’s too many other potentials for that.
Whenever I see the name Sam Fox, I’m immediately transported back to 1989 (OK, I was only 3, but I’ve seen the clips). Who can forget her disastrous attempt at presenting the Brit Awards? Ex-Page 3 model; Sam will resume the role of Mother of the house I believe. Many of the older male viewers will appreciate Sam reminding them of their younger years as I’m sure she was a crush for that generation! I think she’ll be down to earth, reluctant to get involved in the dramas of the younger housemates and keep a largely level head. She’ll be one to watch for the final for sure.
Talk about transformation. It’s amazing what a bit of plastic surgery and a decent spray tan can achieve. In fact, contrary to what I’m sure will be many people’s opinion, it seems Chloe has had something of a make under. Remember that programme Snog, Marry, Avoid? It feels like she took a step into Pod and came out the other side.
Chloe first had a taste of ‘fame’ when she auditioned for The X Factor back in 2010. Her audition got everyone talking for the wrong reasons but Simon saw a glimmer of hope and put her through to bootcamp. It wasn’t meant to be as she was kicked off not long after.
She’s now quite successful in her own right across the Atlantic so I’m thinking she wants to repeat that success back here in the UK, hence her entering the most famous house in Britain. Will she win? Doubtful. However, I’m hoping she’ll provide a lot of drama and I think there could also be a potential showmance too.
No idea who this woman is. Not a bloody clue. A quick Google search informs me that Aubrey is an American Reality TV star who found fame when she was put into a girl band by Puff Daddy/P Diddy/what’s he known as now? There could be a fall out between her and Chloe so that could be one relationship to watch.
Another of X Factor 2010’s Alumni (I wonder if Katie will remember Chloe and vice versa?). There was barely a day that went by during the Autumn of 2010 where Katie wasn’t clocking up the column inches in the tabloids. Katie has made absolutely no secret of her hate for ex X Factor mentor; Cheryl Cole/Versini/Tweedy (what’s your name today, love?). Katie despises her and will tell any rag and magazine no less. Thus, I think the producers could be hoping for more dirt being dished by Katie. She will definitely be one to watch.
Saira was runner up in very first series of The Apprentice way back in 2005 (I know, I can’t believe it’s been going that long either). More recently she’s been seen on the Loose Women panel (it just isn’t CBB without a loose woman is it?). Saira isn’t afraid to speak her mind and sparked debate earlier this year when she spoke out about her dwindling sex life. I think Saira will ruffle some feathers but on the whole, like Sam Fox, be a bit of a Mother Hen figure in the house.
Now, this may come as quite a shock to you, as many of you will know how much Reality TV I watch. However, I have never seen so much as a single episode of Mob Wives, not even a second. Thus, I needed to perform a quick Google search on Renee. It certainly seems Renee will have some interesting stories to tell about her life and I can imagine she has the potential to strike fear into her housemates.
I watched the series of Ex On The Beach that ‘Bear’ appeared in and as unpopular as my opinion might be, I quite liked him in it. He made me laugh. He’s sure to cause a lot of drama and I’m sure Vicky Pattison is rolling her eyes that yet another of her exes has entered the house. ‘Bear’ won’t beat around the bush and he’ll certainly have his eye on the ladies of the house. I can’t see him winning but he’ll cause a stir and will potentially be a memorable housemate.
Best known for his role in Eastenders, Ricky has certainly had his fair share of bad press over the last couple of years. Mainly in the form of drugs and naked webcam antics (what is it with the cast of Eastenders and their webcams? Dirty Den anyone?). I can imagine Ricky will be a peace maker in the house and shy away from any drama and nastiness. He’ll be a friend to all and keep his head down as much as possible. A potential for the win.
TOWIE fitlord (read my TOWIE Hunk blog post if you need confirmation) will be one for the ladies, for sure. I foresee a potential showmance between him and Marnie play out over the coming days and weeks. Lewis no longer stars in TOWIE after bowing out in 2015, but not before causing a shitstorm of drama when he managed to fall out with pretty much every single member of the cast. Personally, I think Lewis will be looking to change the public’s perception of him and will be keen to lose the TOWIE tag. He’ll try and make friends with all, however, having seen him do his worst on TOWIE, I’m sure he’ll lose his rag at some point and be embroiled in some sort of situation. I can see him doing well but I can’t see him winning.
Brother to the rather famous singer Ariana Grande, Frankie is quite big on the Reality TV scene across the pond. This will probably stand him in good stead for the Big Brother house. He’ll know how to play the game and how to do both his best and his worst. I can see him annoying other housemates but making his mark for sure. He’ll be the provider of entertainment.
Famous for being Anthea Turner’s (former housemate herself) ex-husband. Grant Bovey declared himself bankrupt a few years back so the cynical side of me isn’t surprised he’s signed up to the show that is guaranteed to bring an element of fame and fortune his way. He certainly doesn’t mind making a tit of himself for money – anyone remember him advertising Cadbury’s Flake on his wedding day? Some of the most cringe worthy wedding snaps I’ve seen since Katie Price and Peter Andre’s nuptials back in 2005. And that’s saying something.
Not a frigging clue. Google tells me James is a radio DJ, and a controversial one at that. Controversy is something that the producers of Big Brother love so I’m sure this is why they’ve stuck him in the house and probably have high hopes for this signing. He has strong and rather strange opinions (he’s not a fan of recycling is just one of these viewpoints) thus I can imagine him becoming caught up in some rather heated debates.
Ah, Biggins, lovely, lovely Biggins. Christopher Biggins is an old hand at Reality TV. He won I’m A Celebrity (Get Me Out Of Here) nearly a decade ago and seems to be someone the public hold close to their hearts. He’ll be lots of fun to watch, he’s funny, flamboyant and has energy in abundance. His fellow housemates will love him and will more than likely look up to Biggins as a father figure. He’ll be a shoulder to cry on during the rows and someone to laugh with during the drinking sessions.
Colin ‘Heavy D’ Newell
Seriously, Google is starting to get a little fed up with me constantly using its services. Colin or Heavy D as he’s apparently best known as (!) is a Reality TV novice. Viewers may know him from Storage Hunters (can’t say I’ve ever watched that). Apparently he’s loud so I can see him rubbing up some of the housemates the wrong way. I can imagine he won’t take any shit from his fellow ‘celebrities’ and will probably be involved in a few rows along the way. And yes, he is wearing a suit covered in pictures of underpants.
And there you have it. My little round up of who is who in the Celebrity Big Brother house this summer. I shall be watching closely and writing up my thoughts with regards to the goings on. Hopefully I’ll only have to do a weekly roundup but if this series is anything like the last it might have to be a bi or maybe tri weekly affair!
Let the fun begin!
