Cast your mind back to 1995. If you can. Robbie Williams announced his departure from the boy band of the decade; Take That and there was an outpouring of grief from many a teenage girl across the land. So much so there was a telephone helpline set up to help these legions of fans come to terms with their loss.
With this in mind, do you think ITV2 could set up a helpline for us Love Island fans who aren’t quite ready to bid farewell to the TV series of the Summer? Cus I’m having trouble coming to terms with the fact Cara & Nathan et al won’t be gracing my screens with their gorgeous presence from next week.
To say I’ve been obsessed with the series over the last 6 weeks would be the understatement of the year. Heck, maybe even the millennium. For me, it has been THE BEST Reality TV programme EVER. And as a huge fan of that genre of entertainment that’s saying something.
I’m currently watching the Emmerdale omnibus as I write this article, and it isn’t Rakesh’s life falling apart that’s exciting me right now, it’s the 3 words in the top right of the screen that say “Love Island Tonight” that is getting me chomping at the bit. Suffice to say, the fact it’s the penultimate episode tonight makes me want to take to my bed and enter a period of mourning for the foreseeable.
What a series it’s been eh Love Island fans? We’ve had it all. Fit men in abundance (Alex Bowen for me, who knew a Brummie accent could be oh so sexy?), gorgeous ladies, drama, romance, shagging (not one to watch if your parents are in the room), and let’s not forget the real star of the show; Iain Stirling whose voiceover has been pant wettingly hilarious at times (and he’s seriously fit too!).
Personally, I’m so pleased with who the public have decided should fight it out in the final to be crowned Love Island Couple. These 4 couples have each found a way into my heart over the last few weeks and it’s been an absolute pleasure to watch them on my TV.
So, let’s take a look at each couple who are hoping to walk away with a cash prize of £50,000 and see if their new found relationships will last in the less than sun soaked UK.
Cara and Nathan
Firm favourites from the start “Nara” (I tried, alright), have been the strongest couple ever since they picked each other in the very first ‘coupling’. I just adore Nathan, he’s absolutely hilarious. He doesn’t take himself too seriously and he and Cara complement each other brilliantly. I refuse to accept certain speculation that their coupling isn’t as genuine as us viewers like to believe. For me, they are and that’s the end of it. Cara even said the L word so that’s it for me!
Will they last on the outside? That’s anybody’s guess especially with Cara’s concerns that Nathan’s new found fame will means he’ll favour partying over prioritising his relationship with her. However, if I had to pick a couple I think would go the distance (and by distance I mean lasting to Christmas), then this pairing would be it.
Odds to win: 5/1
Scott and Kady
Here’s a couple that have been through it all and come out the other side. Scott for me is my favourite Love Island lad. Excitable, funny and not bad to look at, I’ve really enjoyed watching Sady’s (they’re getting worse aren’t they?) relationship’s ups and downs throughout the series. They’ve weathered many a storm and I’d be pleased to see them crowned Love Island Couple. I’m not even ashamed to admit I had a little tear when Scott asked Kady to be his girlfriend last week.
Kady isn’t afraid to put Scott in his place (sometimes a little too harshly I have to admit) and Scott is the first to concur that he needs a strong woman to deal with him. Doesn’t hurt that she’s to quote him “an absolute worldie either does it?”
Odds to win: 4/1
Olivia and Alex
There’s no doubt about it. Alex is an absolute fit lord. I’m slightly ashamed to admit that title of Fitlord was previously taken by Terry but I soon saw the error of my ways and decided to pass the baton over to Alex.
Olivia is bang into Alex, you can tell. We’ve watched as she’s poured her heart out about her reluctance to trust the Brummie Beaut and I watched behind a cushion as she did a ‘Geordie Shore’ and decided to ‘trash the villa’ by throwing a can of hairspray across the room when he failed his questions on the lie detector test. Personally, I think Alex genuinely likes Olivia and is hopeful of a future, that was proven when he shed a tear or 5 after the ill-fated lie detector test. They make up as quickly as they fall out and I wouldn’t be surprised if we see a last minute surge of votes for ‘Olex’ (I’m so sorry)
Odds to win: 8/1
Katie and Adam
If I’m honest, I think Adam should win Love Island alone, purely for his absolutely hilarious metaphors “It’s like playing a PlayStation game right….”. I’ve had a love/hate relationship with Adam over the course of his time in the villa. There’s been times I’ve shouted at the TV “JUST SORT YOUR SHIT OUT ADAM, WHY ARE YOU EVEN HERE?” but there’s also been times I’ve admired him for his reluctance to just be with anybody.
I have to admit, I’m surprised he’s declared his lust for Katie, initially I was shocked at that pairing. However, I did enjoy their date together and it was nice to see Adam seem to genuinely like a girl on a romantic level as opposed to constantly friend zoning them. Some say ‘Adie’ (am I getting better at this amalgamation malarkey???) could be the dark horses of the competition, mainly because Adam seems to have many a fan watching him on the show. However, if I was a betting girl then I would say this pairing won’t last post Love Island and I would be very shocked if they take the title in the final tomorrow.
Odds to win: 25/1
Tomorrow nights final is on ITV2 at 9pm. Miss it and you’ll be missing out!!!!!
