2010 was the tale of two halves.
I said goodbye to the Noughties in the place I spent the majority of that decade. ‘Up Chase’. Never let it be said I’m not classy.
Mid way through 2010, I had an epiphany.
There were events that led to this epiphany. It was a weekend that wasn’t vastly different to other weekends. It was one of those where I didn’t make it to bed until 8am because of the previous nights events. But the week after that I realised just how unhappy I was.
I didn’t know myself anymore. I didn’t like the person I’d become. I was in debt, very overweight and stuck in a shit job. I didn’t even know what the company did. In fact, looking back now, I still don’t know what the company did and I was there for nearly a year.
I had to leave the job I’d been in since I was 20 for a variety of reasons. Things, shall we say, had become untenable. I needed a fresh start. However, that fresh start had now extended to other elements in my life. Thus, I decided to head to my parents, with my tail between my legs and ask if I could move back home.
I needed to sort myself out. This was one of the best decisions I ever made. I needed to calm down, take stock and escape the viscous cycle I’d found myself in. Moving back home allowed me to save money, lose weight and stopped me from doing things I know weren’t good for me. It was life affirming.
Still, it took some getting used to. It doesn’t matter how old you are, how long you’ve lived sans parents for, if you’re living under their roof then they’re still going to want to know if you’re staying out of an evening or if you’re in for tea. That caused a few interesting chats, let me tell you.
10. Katie Perry – Firework
This isn’t Katy Perry’s best song. In fact, it’s not even that great. The only reason for its inclusion here is what it reminds me of. Me and my best mate, sat outside a kebab shop on Bristol city centre after a night of meeting the TOWIE castmembers (don’t judge). She turns to me, mid fag and asks if I ever feel like a plastic bag, floating in the wind, wanting to start again.
Well, that was it. I was gone.
9. Flo Rida feat David Guetta – Club Can’t Handle Me Right Now
This song just makes me feel happy. I could be in the darkest of moods and as soon as I hear the intro, a smile will almost break across my face. Almost mind.
8. David Guetta feat Kid Cudi – Memories
I first stumbled across this song after a messy weekend. You know the ones I mean. You go out on the Friday night and stumble through the front door on the Sunday morning.
“All the crazy shit I did tonight, those will be the best memories”.
Problem is, I can’t remember the crazy shit. So it didn’t make the best memories. Thank god there’s always someone there to remind me what I did.
7. Swedish House Mafia feat Tinie Tempah- Miami 2 Ibiza
I feel like I should have ranked this song a bit higher. Because, I spent a great deal of the latter part of 2010 listening to it. It’s a brilliant motivator and is on my workout playlist.
Which, due to the fact I am incredibly lazy, never gets used.
6. Tinie Tempah – Pass Out
For some reason, unbeknownst to me, YouTube doesn’t appear to have an official video for Pass Out, so I’ll be leaving you with this one. Soz about that.
5. Tinie Tempah feat Eric Turner – Written In The Stars
Yep. ‘e again. 2010 was the year of the Tempah. I bloody love this song.
4. Ne-Yo – Beautiful Monster
This song reminds me of a trip to Ann Summers with a friend of mine. Don’t ask. It’s a long story that will be saved for the memoirs.
3. Rihanna – Only Girl In The World
Rihanna knows how to deliver. This is up there with her best work. And she looks so damn hot in the video. I’d love to go that red but knowing I would never look as good as Rihanna always stops me from grabbing the hair dye.
2. Lady Gaga feat Beyoncé – Telephone
I’m going out on a whim here. Twice.
Best Lady Gaga song by a MILE. It helps that The Queen assisted Gaga with this utter TUNE.
One of the best music videos ever made. It’s a masterpiece. Of the millions upon millions of views its had over the last 8 years, I’d say I make up a great portion of them.
1. Drake – Find Your Love
For me, it’s this lyric that made me fall in love with Drake “I’m more than just an option”. It also helps that he has a glorious voice and a face I could stare at for days.
I bloody love him.
Allow me to now hand proceedings over to my blogger pal Tim. He’s going to walk us through the tracks of his 2010.
10. Cee Lo Green – Forget You
9. Duck Sauce – Barbra Streisand – oh Tim, I’ve spent the best part of 7 years trying to forget this song!
8. Kesha – Tik Tok
7. Lady Gaga – Bad Romance
6. Rihanna – Only Girl (In The World)
5. Owl City – Fireflies
4. Lady Antebellum – Need You Now
3. Katy Perry – California Gurls – I’m jealous, I wish I’d picked that one now.
2. Pink – Raise Your Glass
1. Eminem feat Rihanna – Love The Way You Lie
A 2010 Tim!
I swear I have the biggest mouth and the biggest teeth in the world. It doesn’t really suit my quiet personality if truth be told.
