Bring your best smile out
Most of us have probably felt at least a little bit self-conscious about the way our teeth look at some time or other. It’s perfectly natural, and actually something which ought not to be overlooked. In the past, dentistry – in all its forms – was a responsive service, meaning that people only visited their dentist when they had a problem, like toothache for instance. Today however, there are a multitude of reasons as to why you may wish to visit a dental clinic in W1 that go far beyond just needing immediate dental care. If you are feeling self-conscious about the way that your smile looks, then you need only make a preliminary visit to a clinic in which you feel at ease, to hear how various cosmetic treatments can be used to help you bring out your best smile, and reclaim your self-esteem.
Cosmetic teeth brightening
One of the most widely requested methods of cosmetic dentistry across the country today, is cosmetic tooth whitening. Patients of all ages often feel that their teeth are slightly yellowed or discoloured, and could benefit from being professionally whitened. Additionally, those who perhaps have a special occasion on the horizon, at which it is important to make a good and long-lasting impression, such as a job interview, date or social occasion like a wedding, may also feel they could benefit from tooth whitening. There are a number of home-whitening kits which can be easily purchased on the internet or from unlicensed sellers, although these often contain dangerously high levels of peroxide, and as such can have massively detrimental effect on the strength of your tooth’s enamel. Because of this, it is thoroughly recommended that you only receive tooth whitening from a registered cosmetic dental practice. If you opt for an in-practice whitening treatment – which is one of the quickest and most popular methods of tooth whitening – then, typically a unique mould will be made of your teeth. Into this mould, a thin amount of a specialised, dental whitening gel will be placed, before shining a UV light onto them. This UV light activates the whitening agent within the peroxide gel and acts almost immediately, brightening and whitening the patient’s teeth. Home-whitening kits from the dentist operate in a similar way, a retainer is created, into which a whitening gel is applied, although this is carried out at home and takes around two weeks to yield results.
White composite fillings
Another type of cosmetic dentistry which can be used to transform the way your smile looks, are white (or composite) fillings. Dental fillings are a common type of dentistry which is used when a patient’s teeth are slightly decayed and require to be cleaned out and filled with a dental bonding material. Common, NHS fillings are a silvery colour, and called amalgam fillings. These are effective in filling spaces in a patient’s teeth, but are usually largely detectable within the patient’s mouth. White composite fillings however are far less detectable, as they are colour matched using specially designed pigments to blend perfectly with the surrounding teeth, so that they are impossible to see.
