Why You Should Stick With Your PT Sessions

A lot of people find it hard to attend their physical therapy sessions continuously. It’s difficult because it’s hard work. If you know anyone who suffered a stroke and had to go through physical therapy, ask them how difficult it was going through each and every session.

If you want to know how difficult it can be try writing with your weak hand. If you’re right-handed try writing with your left hand. If you’re left-handed try writing with your right hand. You’ll notice that it’s not as easy as it seems writing with your weaker hand.

It’s the same thing with some people who have to go through physio sessions because they lost their motor skills due to a stroke or a trauma. And when you’ve lost your motor skills even the simplest of movements like writing on paper can seem like a tedious task.

So, it’s one of the reasons some people do not like attending their physical therapy sessions even if it’s important that they stick with it. In order to understand further why attending PT sessions are important, here are three reasons why:

1. Consistency helps

Any physical therapist will tell a patient that consistency is the key to addressing atrophied or injured muscles. It’s the only way to help someone heal themselves. Experts say that the longer you don’t treat that muscle, the more likely it will get worse.

So, even if a patient is in vacation, they should still stick with his PT sessions wherever they may be. Fortunately, there’s rarely a country anywhere that doesn’t have reliable physical therapy clinics that can help a patient with his physio requirements.

Singapore physio clinics are even far better than some of the clinics in the US and Europe. So, if you happen to be vacationing in this country, rest assured that you can get the help that you need.

2. You can’t do this solo

Some patients avoid their sessions because they think that they have a handle on what their PT session should be like. They think that just because they’ve been going to their PT sessions for several months they already know the routine enough that they can do it on their own. They think that they can do the exercises in the comfort of their homes or they think that by doing the exercises solo they can minimize their expenses.

But, you can’t do this on your own. You need a licensed therapist to help you with your sessions no matter where you are because there are exercises that could be dangerous to you if you don’t have someone assisting you.

3. You need guidance

Hard exercise

If you miss out on your sessions, you’ll also miss out on learning more from your therapist. Maybe on your next session you’ve progressed further and so your therapist can tell you what activities you can join or what kind of medicines or foods you can eat to help you further. Avoiding your therapy sessions will rob you of this opportunity.

Attending physical therapy sessions no matter where you are is important. It’s the only way you’ll be able to heal your injured muscles and it’s the only way you’ll be able to go back to the way you were before your injury.
